Our gardens compromise six acres of Wiltshire countryside, settled on the Cotswold border. Our Head Gardener, Glyn Orford has nurtured and developed our gardens over the past 23 years, to a relaxing and picturesque escape that it is today. In 2022, Glyn is joined by Sylvia to help him develop our gardens further.
It was planted to complement the different aspects of Guyers House and particularly to take advantage of the attractive ancient stone walls that occupy the grounds.
Thus the seventeenth century front faces long lavender edged yew walks with secluded enclosures and gazebos leading to an orchard and a pond and a line of shrub roses.
The garden faced by the Georgian facade of the house has an open, sweeping, airy freedom.
It is a garden of contrasts but restful and easy on the mind.
In summary the planting and layout comprises spacious lawns, hooped rose walks, a walled kitchen garden with raised vegetable beds (which helps to feed the restaurant) colourful herbaceous borders, sweeping vistas and a lily pond.
A shady pleached hornbeam walk is underplanted with clipped yew and the courtyards are climbed by a vigorous collection of roses, wisteria and freemontodendron.
There is an aromatic group of bay trees edging a walk through to a large border and in spring aconites, snowdrops and daffodils are in abundance throughout the garden and woods.
